Dental hygienists should be aware of and understand the importance of ergonomics, human factors, and proper equipment in the workplace, especially with changes in the work environment that have occurred over the past year. This CE webinar will review dental ergonomics and human factors in the workplace. We will discuss recognition, prevention, and traditional and non-traditional treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. We will cover the utilization of varying modalities of self- care including weight training and yoga to increase strength and flexibility, ultimately leading to increased comfort in the operatory.
Upon completion of the CE webinar, the student will successfully be able to: • Define ergonomics and understand the importance of optimizing ergonomics in dental hygiene • Recognize equipment and human factors that can impact the daily work environment • Identify different classifications of movement and understand the importance of movement in the operatory • Become aware of the onset of signs of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in order to take action to prevent or minimize physical discomfort in the workplace • Become familiar with traditional and non-traditional modalities of self-care that could help with long- term comfort • Implement movements which will help gain strength and increase flexibility with the goal of increasing comfort of the body in and out of the workplace • Formulate a plan to optimize human factors and ergonomics in your own work environment to help maintain comfort and longevity in a physically demanding career
